If possible, consider making your travel plans to arrive and depart Nantucket during the mid-week (Monday through Thursday). You'll miss the heavy weekend traffic over the Cape Cod Canal bridges, as well as large crowds at ferry docks and airports.

Nantucket is located within nearly equal distance from two major airports: Boston (Logan International Airport) and Providence, Rhode Island (T.F. Green International Airport). Visitors arriving at either of these two cities can arrange for transportation to Nantucket Island via connecting air service, bus, taxi or by renting a car.

Most visitors to Nantucket arrive by ferry from Hyannis. Located in the middle of Cape Cod, Hyannis is the transportation center of the region. Hyannis is roughly a 30-minute drive from the Bourne and Sagamore Bridges - which span the Cape Cod Canal and connect Cape Cod to the mainland. Traffic can be problematic for the Cape during peak summer season (especially July and August) so plan your driving time accordingly.
