Start planning your visit to Nantucket as early as possible -- as hotels, inns, and vacation rentals fill up quickly. For summer stays, special events and holidays, people often book rooms, houses, boat moorings -- even restaurants -- up to a year in advance.

Nantucket is an ideal getaway destination -- no matter what time of year you visit. In addition to its eternally popular summer season, more and more visitors are discovering the pleasures of Nantucket's off-season. Credit this to the region's rich history, spectacular natural beauty, diverse arts communities, and cultural events. Nantucket's moderate climate (compared to the mainland) and closeness to some of the East Coast's major cities also play an important role in Nantucket's popularity as a year-round destination.

High Season - Memorial Day through Labor Day (sometimes extending to Columbus Day) is high season on Nantucket. During the summertime tourists flock to experience the Island's extraordinary inns, tour the historic streets, visit the excellent art galleries, shops -- and more than a dozen terrific museums. You can expect great beach weather -- however, expect the crowds and prices to be high as well.

Shoulder Season - Spring and fall are great seasons to visit Nantucket -- with lower rates at area hotels, inns, and restaurants. You'll experience ideal weather for many outdoor activities including bicycling, nature hikes, kayaking, fishing and bird watching. In addition, Nantucket boasts several special events during the Spring and Fall which are a delight to experience.

Low Season - The holiday season is a magical time to visit Nantucket -- with its famed Nantucket Noel and Christmas Stroll, the holiday celebration hearkens to a bygone era. Although many shops, restaurants, hotels and inns close during the winter, many stay open year-round and offer the perfect backdrop for a romantic or relaxing getaway (with rates at half of high season).
